SWA Dallas

Designing cultural touchstones that build connectivity and community.

Opened in 1983, the SWA Dallas studio is a strong, longstanding part of the city. Its nimble team has led some of the firm’s most ambitious public projects, transforming the city’s open space through mobility projects like the Katy Trail and citywide Loop vision, signature urban parks like Pacific Plaza and Southern Gateway Park, and cultural landscapes like the ongoing redesign of the Dallas Museum of Art. Clients in hospitality often seek out the team’s expertise, exemplified through projects including the Virgin Hotel Dallas and Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Cabo San Lucas, which has remained one of the world’s leading resorts since its 1997 opening. The studio, co-led by Managing Principals Chuck McDaniel, FASLA, and Zane Busbee, prides itself on a diverse portfolio of civic, institutional, mixed-use, and hospitality projects across the U.S. and abroad.

Located in the city’s Design District, the studio is set apart by a curious and diligent approach to design that has made it a trusted partner on large, complex projects and spurred new fields of inquiry within SWA—including a Climate and Sustainability team currently advancing our first firmwide Climate Action Plan.
