Peiwen Yu, ASLA, RLA (Texas #2328)

Principal

“In a technological age that so often produces a simulated reality at the expense of the real, I believe in landscape’s power to tell stories. Immersion in nature can shape human feelings; my approach to placemaking and design bring memorable places into urban communities, framed by my belief that this mixture will be the solution to make cities more fascinating and engaging, while disincentivizing sprawl and protecting the precious natural environments.”

Peiwen Yu, PLA, is an award-winning landscape architect with over 20 years of experience. She followed her passion for cultural exploration through world travel, writing, photography, and storytelling. At SWA, Peiwen has personally directed a number of significant public projects from concept to implementation. Her professional contributions are realized through built works that reinvigorate urban parks and waterfronts, enrich places through cultural integration, and promote both aesthetics and a forward-looking social agenda. Through her urban transformation projects in Asia, the US, and Africa, Peiwen’s unique approach restores urban ecology, promotes socially resilient public spaces, and embraces a forward-looking lifestyle. Her thought leadership is developed through writing on her Ren Chi Space website, where she explores a design methodology that is applicable to original urban community-building in diverse cultural contexts.
