Building upon a winning competition entry, SWA is developing a master plan to transform a former Naval Air Station into a premier mixed-use district in southern Dallas. Tasked with crafting an implementable plan that achieves environmental sustainability, economic recovery, and social equity objectives, SWA is working to address the unique challenges of a former military site while leveraging landscape assets to create site-based master plan concepts. Some of SWA’s signature contributions include the 10-acre “Peninsula Park,” a green infrastructure network connecting 185 acres of open space, and an interpretive loop trail traversing preserved historical structures along a five-mile, multi-use path.
SWA is co-managing the project with McCann Adams Studio of Austin as prime, collaborating to test alternative scenarios, incorporate the expertise of stakeholders and technical advisors, and deliver the final master plan to the City Council in the summer of 2022.
