Shuyi Chang, PLA
“My practice is a dynamic mix of scale and project types featuring remarkable site characteristics. The goal is to provide harmonious design solutions through a balance of developing spaces for people and protecting nature.”
Shuyi Chang, PLA, brings almost three decades of experience in planning, urban design, and landscape architecture to her role as Principal at SWA. Her work includes intimate gardens, layered urban districts, large-scale waterfronts, and ecologically sensitive landscapes across diverse domestic and international settings.
Shuyi’s perspective is shaped by her upbringing in Taiwan, studying in the United States, and working internationally. After joining SWA Dallas in 2000, she helped establish the Shanghai office in 2011 and has led transformative projects throughout China and globally, guiding complex developments from vision through implementation. As a designer and practice leader, Shuyi is committed to creating places that enrich community life while balancing cultural identity, ecological stewardship, and long-term resilience. Beyond project work, she is recognized for advancing the profession through mentorship, thought leadership, and industry engagement. She co-founded the Shanghai Landscape Forum, one of China’s earliest professional international landscape architecture platforms, fostering dialogue and collaboration among designers, academics, and industry leaders.
