Century City Revitalization

Location Los Angeles, California, United States

Client Trammell Crow Company

Scope Landscape Architecture

Size 10 acres

This ambitious project is located in the center of Century City adjacent to the twin Stainless Steel Towers originally designed by Fumiko Yamasaki. Trammell Crow Company purchased the property in 1998 with the purpose of renovating the site into cutting edge retail and office space. Their strategy was to demolish all of the buildings on the site except the twin towers. Three new buildings were built and the project provides a diverse tenant mix, retail, restaurants, and year-round public events. SWA’s design includes transforming the existing hardscape plaza into four acres of open air, landscaped green space. The objective was to create an outdoor green oasis providing a respite from the office and urban surroundings–not only a garden space for relaxing but also ample space for outdoor dining, events, and gatherings. The site slopes a total of 17.5’ from the floor of the new main building to the existing twin towers. A park is on top of the underground parking structure. Planting plays a significant role in creating a strong visual statement.
